ADULT TRAINING IN HAMDEN, CT
TRAIN FOR EVERYTHING YOU STILL WANT YOUR BODY TO BE ABLE TO DO
RTS Adult Training grew from an athletic-performance environment where physical preparation always had a purpose. Here, the purpose is yours. You may want to become stronger, add muscle, improve body composition, regain something you used to be able to do or simply stop watching your physical capability move in the wrong direction.

You may want to become stronger, add muscle, improve body composition, regain something you used to be able to do or simply stop watching your physical capability move in the wrong direction.
GETTING A RESULT IS NOT ENOUGH IF YOU NEVER WANT TO DO IT AGAIN.
RTS looks at both sides of success: whether the training is producing the outcome you wanted and whether you are experiencing the process in a way you can continue.
KNOWING HOW TO GET FIT IS DIFFERENT FROM MAKING FITNESS WORK IN YOUR LIFE NOW.
Many adults who come to RTS have already been successful with training. They have lifted consistently, changed their body composition, developed strength or reached a level of fitness they were proud of.
Then the circumstances surrounding the training changed.
For instance: work became more demanding, you schedule changed from family obligations, you travel more, you feel held back by an injury. Or even, the two-hour sessions that once fit easily into the week became impossible to justify.
That is why the first useful question is not simply, “What is your goal?”
RTS also needs to understand what is blocking the path to it now. A plan built without those constraints may look excellent on paper and still be almost impossible for you to sustain.
THREE THINGS THAT SHAPE ADULT TRAINING AT RTS
WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO CHANGE?
Your coach can use several targets at once, including strength, muscle, body composition, conditioning and physical capability, to understand whether your training is moving you toward the outcome you want.
HOW MUCH TRAINING IS ENOUGH TO MOVE YOU FORWARD?
RTS considers your schedule, previous training history and current capacity before deciding how much weekly training to prescribe, so the starting workload is useful without immediately becoming unrealistic.
HOW ARE YOUR JOINTS ABLE TO MOVE?
Your movement screen helps your coach evaluate joint function, exercise suitability and skill level so movements can be selected and coached according to how your body currently works.
WHEN FITNESS KEEPS FAILING IN THE SAME PLACES, THE MODEL MAY BE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
RTS Adult Training was built for people who need more than access, a shared workout, or another short-term fix. The process accounts for what has failed before, then uses coaching, assessment and real information from your training to build a better answer.
You keep starting with a plan that demands more than you can sustain.
You do well for a few weeks, then work, travel or family pressure makes the plan difficult to maintain. The problem is not always motivation. Sometimes the starting dose was never realistic enough to survive your actual week.
You know what you should be doing, but you are not consistently doing it.
The information itself may not be the problem. You may already understand lifting, nutrition and the habits generally associated with getting in shape.
What is missing is a structure that reduces how much you have to initiate, plan and second-guess alone.
You need the time you give training to be worth taking from something else.
Your time has value. If training means giving up hours that could go toward work, family or another priority, you want to understand what that investment is intended to produce.
RTS approaches the conversation from that perspective rather than assuming that more gym time is inherently more virtuous.
SUCCESS STORIES
Hear from real athletes, who reached their fitness, health, and nutrition goals.
Mary Beth
“After learning how to lift heavy weights and eat to maximize my workouts and recovery, I have stayed injury-free for over a year. My running feels better than it has in years and I am stronger than I have ever been. I can say that at 45, I am in the best shape of my life!”
Lisa
“Knowing that I had someone there to guide me through the chaos of life and the ups and downs of training has been instrumental to my success. Mike gave me the courage to dream bigger, get rid of the negative self-talk, push forward through challenges and get back up after a failure. As a result, I became stronger, faster, and a better version of myself.”
Marina
“I've lost almost 15 lbs and leaned out dramatically while continuing to gain muscle. I'm moving more weight than I ever thought possible, and most importantly I've gained confidence -- in both my appearance and in what my body is able to do. At 41 I am leaner, stronger, and fitter than I have ever been.”`

FOUNDER & CEO
Mike built RTS around the belief that adults deserve the same clarity of purpose found in high-performance training: know what you are trying to change, understand what is getting in the way, and make the work lead somewhere.

MIKE RANFONE
Mike began his professional career at Yale University, where he served as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for more than 500 Division I athletes. RTS was established in 2005 and later expanded its performance model beyond competitive athletes.
Adult Training grew from the belief that adults also deserve training with a clear purpose. The desired outcome may be greater strength, more muscle, improved body composition, better physical capacity or the ability to continue doing things that become easier to lose with age, but the expectation remains the same: the work should produce something useful.
THE METHOD IS A TOOL, NOT THE IDENTITY.
RTS uses governing principles to decide which methods are appropriate instead of committing every person to one branded style of training. The basics are often enough when they are selected well, coached well and changed at the right time.
OUR EXPERTS DETERMINE WHICH TOOLS TO UTILIZE
RTS is not built around one training style. Coaches continue developing their expertise and use established principles to determine which exercise, setup or method best fits what you are trying to accomplish at that point in time.
hypothesis → test → findings → iterate
Your initial program is built from the best information available at the start. Tracking and training gives RTS better information, allowing your coach to test assumptions, identify what is working and make a different decision when the evidence points somewhere else.
COACHING THAT BUILDS INDEPENDENCE
Early on, RTS provides more direct instruction and frequent review because there is more for you and your coach to learn. As you become more capable, you should increasingly understand your training, recognize the important signals and know where to focus while still having professional oversight available when you need it.
FAQS
What happens when I start Adult Training at RTS?
Your Onboarding (the first five weeks) is designed to make sure you never feel dropped into a gym and left to figure it out. You begin with a movement screen and one-on-one coaching so your coach can learn how you move, test the initial exercise choices, teach you how to use your program, select weights and navigate the RTS environment, then gradually transition you into semi-private training once you have the confidence and competency to do more independently.
Do I need to be in shape before starting?
No. Adult Training is built around your current starting point, training history and physical capabilities. RTS uses that information to decide what amount of work and which exercise choices make sense for you now.
What if I used to train a lot but have been inconsistent for years?
That is common. RTS does not assume you should immediately return to the amount of training you used to do. Your starting volume can be lower and build as consistency, confidence and capacity improve.
How is progress measured in Adult Training?
Progress can include more than one target. Depending on what you are working toward, RTS may look at strength, muscle, body composition, conditioning, physical capability and other markers together rather than relying on one number to define success.
What is a movement screen and how does it affect my program?
The movement screen helps establish your movement signature, including how your joints move, which exercise options are appropriate and what your current skill level allows you to perform well. That information helps shape exercise selection and execution.
Will I always work one-on-one with a coach?
Not necessarily. Adult Training begins with more direct one-on-one coaching so you can learn the program, movements, app and training environment. As you become more capable, your training can shift further into the semi-private model while you continue following your own program.
What happens after the first five weeks of onboarding?
Your ongoing training is based on what RTS has learned during onboarding, including how you responded to the program, where you still need more help and which forms of coaching have been most useful. The level and type of support can change from there.
Can nutrition be part of Adult Training?
Yes. Nutrition coaching can be added when it supports the outcome you are working toward. It is not automatically required for every Adult Training member.
